Winter is slow season for many photographers, so we tend to see a lot more personal work and experimentation on the rolls of film that come through the lab. If you’re looking for a new film stock to try out, JCH StreetPan 400 may be the film stock for you! This film stock was released just a little over a year ago, and recently, our staff got to test it out! Below are a few photos and tips from our staff on how to get the best results from this film stock:
JCH StreetPan 400 is a 400 speed film, but we found it looks good rated between 200 and 400 ISO, depending on your lighting conditions (rate it closer to 200 ISO in overcast weather, 400 ISO in sunny light). It naturally yields a lot of contrast and grain, so we do not recommend pushing this film stock. If anything, you might consider pulling it a stop if you want a little less punch to your imagery.
If you prefer a neutral amount of contrast in your imagery, you can also tone down the contrast a little by having your images scanned on the Noritsu instead of the Frontier. The Noritsu has a wider contrast range than the Frontier does, so our scanning technicians can pull down the contrast more in a Noritsu scan than they can in Frontier scans. For those who prefer high contrast, this film stock is great! Plenty of punch with deep shadows and bright highlights. In either case, you can control how much contrast is in your final image by adjusting the contrast in post editing.
We carry JCH StreetPan 400 in 35mm format, so if you want to try it out, email us or drop us a line! This month only, you can purchase JCH StreetPan 400 35mm film for $7.95 (normally $8.95).
